What is G sharp?

Situated in a spacious loft which formerly housed a
legendary brothel in the 1970s, G Sharp is an evolving performance
and exhibition space for music, film, video and the visual and performing arts.

Where is G Sharp?

G Sharp is located in an anonymous industrial area in San Leandro,
a working class East Bay suburb of San Francisco.

Could you elaborate?

If you're under the BART tracks and the aroma of dark chocolate fills your nostrils,
chances are we can see your bald spot from our window!
Who is G Sharp?

G Sharp is three friends who have agreed to open their home to the public for special events.

When are G Sharp events?

Irregular. Every three weeks usually.

So, should i just show up whenever I feel like it?

You can check this site regularly to keep updated on events,
or you can email matt@gsharp.org and ask to be notified about what's coming up.

When you say that you have "events", what precisely does that mean, anyways?

So far, we have hosted four events:
The Second Annual Saran Wrap and Duct Tape Party: a bawdy costume ball,
Japan Invades: a night of performances by three of Tokyo's best underground pop bands,
a performance by the Portland country band Hank Plank and the 2X4s,
and an exclusive headlining performance by Pacific
Northwest alt-rock legend Roger Nusic.

That's not a very long history. I guess that's what you mean by calling yourselves
an "evolving" space, right?

OK, so we don't know the first thing about running a gallery or a nightclub,
but jeez we do offer boxed wine and ample parking.

So, what can we expect in the future?

Well, we have just completed our stage, so look to see some live shows in the near future,
running the gamut from punk to free jazz.

Great, another East Bay venue for difficult music.

Yeah, but we also plan to show movies on our wall.
We've got the capacity to project movies and video at theater sizes.

I bet your neighbors love you guys.

Our neighbor, (also our webmaster) happens to support our high decibel movies and shows.

What's it gonna cost me?

In most cases a sliding scale donation. We use the money to
develop the space. We also give a healthy percentage of the door to the
performers. No pay to play scams here.

I bet you guys are gonna buy yourselves fancy waterbeds
and top shelf tequila with my hard earned donation.

Actually, we plan to raise money to spruce up the place.
Our rooftop garden could use another planter box for growing
yummy stuff like spinach and cilantro. We need stage lighting so the bands don't trip over their amps.
We need a new felt cover for our battle-scarred pool table. Stuff like that.

Alright, sounds interesting, but where the hell is San Leandro?

It's south of Oakland. By BART from downtown San Francisco it takes about 20 minutes.
By car, about 30 minutes.

Did you say something about a brothel at the beginning?

Sorry we don't offer those services anymore. But the ghosts remain.
